It is imperative that we use modern advances in science for self-defence, human development, and health. By embracing science, we can train our bodies more productively, more efficiently and more healthfully. All Pro Mai techniques use sequential movement, which means that energy transfers naturally from one segment to another. This results in maximum force production, decreased chance of injury, and energy efficiency. Pro Mai employ areas of bones less prone to injury or breakage. Examples include using the first two knuckles when executing a punch. Inward block uses the forearm so that it is positioned to take the attack using two bones instead of one, thereby decreasing the chance of injury.
There are two types of muscle fibres we use in Pro Mai, slow twitch which are used in long range drills with low to medium intensity, while fast twitch muscle fibres are used for intense short bursts of anaerobic training.
